NSC-NIH’s Opening and Blessing of the New Office

The Newborn Screening Center – National Institutes of Health (NSC-NIH) recently moved to its new office in UP Ayala Land Technohub Complex, Diliman, Quezon City.

NSC-NIH celebrated its opening and office blessing on 18 November 2011. The blessing was officiated by Fr. Mike Ty of the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice. The event was attended by UP President Alfredo Pascual, UP Manila Chancellor Manuel Agulto, Assistant Secretary of Health Paulyn Jean Ubial, Center for Health Developmetn-4A Regional Director Juanito Taleon, NIH Director Vicente Belizario, international experts, partners, and staff.

The celebration looks forward to the greater success of the program, dedication of the staff, and relentless support of partners and stakeholders of the program.

NSC-NIH first opened in 1996 and has continuously expanded since. It was formerly located at the National Institutes of Health Building in Ermita, Manila.  The geographic move offered bigger space for flexibility and efficiency. The new location can flexibly adapt to the inclusion of the new equipment and can also accommodate higher electricity power requirements of the Center.

The design was ensured to be safe and functional yet aesthetically pleasing laboratory environment to foster employee performance and satisfaction. The architect for the development was Arch. Allen Buenaventura and construction was carried out by the Campus Planning, Development and Maintenance Office.
